How does Mantra Work (Chanting / Meditation)
Do you really know how does mantra work? or how does mantra chanting work? If no, then this is for you. Today, I would like to share some of the most important details on how does mantra work also about chanting and meditation mantras, based on the knowledge I received in the past 5 years of Hinduism, Sikhism & Buddhism mantra practice.
Mantras in foreign languages can feel strange sometimes and one may wonder why we can not sing or chant something (a mantra) in our own language (mother tongue) if we now have to chant / recite something.
In addition, many people suffer from performance anxiety when it comes to chanting of mantra/s. Have been there myself but it's nice to have come across it / come over it.
I have tried a lot of mantras including the OM Mantra, Gayatri Mantra, Waheguru Mantra, Bija Mantras, Green Tara Mantra, So Hum Mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra and many more in the past 5 years of chanting practice.
It was just mantra chanting that helped me, because it's not like singing in its usual sense. It 's more like sounding. You do not sing melodies, the rhythm is more central most of the time, sometimes it just has to be monotonous.
For most mantras, there are recordings that can be used as support. You'll find plenty of them on YouTube.
We are talking about the mantra of kundalini yoga here. Hatha yoga uses mantras from Hindu tradition and the language is usually Sanskrit. In kundalini yoga we also have some mantras in Sanskrit but usually in Gurmukhi.
Gurmukhi is a simplified form of Sanskrit. Many mantras in kundalini yoga come from the Sikhs' holy scripture Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, but there are also mantras in English such as "I am I am".
How does Mantra Work
What makes certain words a mantra is its vibration. The vibration in the mantra affects our vibration. We are made up of atoms that vibrate in a certain way to make us look and function as human beings. When this energy vibration in us is in balance, we feel very good at all levels. We have joy of life, are healthy and optimistic.
However, when the vibration is disturbed, we also become it, which is manifested in various ways such as poor digestion, the feeling of not being connected, stress, depression, fatigue and more.
If you feel you are not in balance, try "chanting" the mantra. If you are not used to it, it may feel strange but it passes. It's guaranteed to be better than drinking alcohol, taking drugs or anything else destructive.
Try to choose a mantra for yourself, for chanting. Choose a place / an area where you can chant this mantra on a daily basis (on a specific time if possible). And start chanting the mantra to change your life, to reduce stress, to deal with anxiety and to find peace, joy, happiness within you. In most simple language, this is how mantra chanting work.
If you want, you can sit for meditation practice daily at least for 20 minutes (if possible) and in your meditation practice, chant the mantra you've chosen silently in your head (without moving your lips). In a simple way, this is how mantra meditation work. Though there are a lot of more info attached to it but as of now, in this post I'm just sharing the simple definition of how does mantra work.
If you want to know more about it, request you to please share your comments below and I'll write a detailed article on the same very soon.
